Just Culture

Description :

A just culture doesn’t seek to blame individuals for unintentional errors, the aim is to analyse the context, the relevant procedures, and the training received. It is an accountable environment which is fair and empowers individuals to admit errors or raise concerns without fear of being penalised.

A just culture also helps management to develop and adapt design systems to catch errors before they become critical, so raising safety standards across the fleet. This allows any individuals involved to learn from their mistakes and the ship to modify any of the circumstances that may have contributed to the incident. Where at risk behaviour is identified then there may be a need for coaching to change the mindset of those who have perhaps become complacent or negligent in their approach to safety.

In this programme Just Culture is discussed in greater detail.
